We're Having a Baby FAQs

So I already posted a whole different blog post, but then I saw a FAQ post and thought that the format would be a whole lot easier to read.  So I'm redoing it!

What's your due date?
February 28, 2015

How did you find out?
I was actually 2 days before my missed period, but didn't have the usual symptoms.  I also didn't have any pregnancy symptoms though.  So I took a cheap dollar store test and 2 lines came up!  I worked out, drank a lot of water and tested with a digital test and it said Pregnant, 2-3 weeks!

How did you tell Ryan?
I knew I couldn't keep it from him for long even though I had wanted to do something cute.  Oh well.  He was working outside so I asked him to come in so we could hang out.  He had to finish what he was doing and talk to the neighbours and I just waited nervously on the couch.  He finally came in and I just pulled out the pregnancy test.  I don't think he really knew what to say!

Had you been trying for long?
It took us just over a year, or 14 cycles depending on how you want to look at it.  It was a stressful time for both of us, but I think that we dealt with it fairly well.  We had actually had a fertility specialist consultation and didn't expect to ever get pregnant on our own, so it was very surprising!

The entire process made me realize that you never know what somebody else around you is going through.  People were constantly asking me when we were going to have kids, and although they meant well, it made me realize that that question isn't really appropriate.  This is a very personal question and you never know if someone is trying, or recently miscarried or is going through IVF treatments.  I hope to be much more cautious in the future about making comments like this.

I also don't want to complain about pregnancy.  When we were trying I found that very irritating.  We are very blessed to be having a baby and that will always be the bright side, the symptoms are just proof that there's something growing in there!

However we are so thrilled that we are finally pregnant and so I will share on Facebook and blog about it, because it's now a huge part of our lives and babies should always be celebrated!

When did you tell your parents?
We waited 4 whole weeks until after our 8 week ultrasound!  I was so afraid that something would happen and needed some reassurance that there was really a baby in there!  Once we told them, they were all so excited, as were our siblings.  This is the first grandchild on both sides, can you say spoiled?

Will you find out the sex?
Nope, that will be a surprise on delivery day!

How have you been feeling?
I had a pretty great first trimester.  I had hardly any symptoms from weeks 4-8.  Then I had the odd bit of nausea and got pretty tired, but overall I felt really good and can't complain.   But stay tuned for my first trimester bump dates if you are curious about what went on in those 8 weeks!

  1. I totally agree with you. You never know what a couple is going through. I know people mean well, however, it can be very touchy.

Spoiled for sure! What a lucky little babe! :)
